The Minimum Housing Footprint research investigates the relationship between humans and residential spatial organization through an analysis of furniture dimensions and the circulation spaces required for functionality. Drawing on Neufert’s Architect’s Data and Herman Hertzberger’s principles of polyvalent design, a modular furniture system was developed to align with contemporary housing needs. This system categorizes furniture by primary activities—eating, cooking, working, gathering, bathing, and sleeping—rather than assigning them to specific rooms. With that, it allows users to define the purpose of each space. This approach emphasizes flexibility and adaptability, aiming to redefine residential layouts to better support the diverse and evolving needs of modern living.
